I do not disagree with anything that Richards said, however, I wish he elaborated on why Jesus is not shown but represented with his hand or his feet. I also wish he expanded on the difficulties and the great lengths that the production crew had to go through while filming both the sea battle and the chariot race. Richards also could have explained why the movie cost so much.
Richards could indeed have gone into more detail on the labor disputes and the other mishaps that made the movie four-times more expensive than other movies at the time, but he actually does address this topic quite a bit (almost all original stars replaced, first footage shot in Italy all scrapped, property warehouse burnt down, etc., etc., down to the 50% profit-sharing deal with the people who sold MGM the film rights.
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather have read anything at all about the film's incredible artistry, the wonderful shots of the race in particular, but also about the use of color (tinted film and two-strip technicolor).
